Department of Energy: Powering Namibia’s Future

Ensure the adequate and affordable energy supply in a sustainable manner taking advantage of our natural resources in support of the nation’s socio-economic development. The Directorate is responsible for the implementation of the Energy Policies and enforces the compliance of legal requirements of energy legislation (Electricity Act, 2007) and regulations and researches new and renewable sources of energy and regulations and research new and renewable sources of energy.

What We Do

  • Policy Implementation: We are responsible for implementing energy policies and regulations, including the Electricity Act, 2007.
  • Regulatory Oversight: We enforce compliance with energy legislation and regulations to ensure a fair and competitive market.
  • Research and Development: We invest in research and development of new and renewable energy sources to diversify Namibia’s energy mix.

Divisions

  • Electricity Division: Oversees the generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity.
  • Renewable Energy Division: Promotes the development and utilisation of renewable energy sources.
  • Energy Planning and Research Division: Conducts energy planning and research to inform policy decisions.
