Namibia’s natural resources are more than just underground riches—they are the backbone of our economy, shaping industries, creating jobs, and opening new opportunities for our people. At the Ministry of Mines and Energy, we recognize that unlocking this potential requires more than just extraction—it requires strategic investment that benefits every Namibian.

Over the years, foreign direct investment in mining, oil, and renewable energy has fueled infrastructure development, technical skills training, and economic diversification. But investment alone is not enough. We are committed to ensuring that every dollar invested into our resource sector is aligned with national goals, promotes local participation, and supports long-term economic growth.

Investment in our mineral and energy industries is not just about business; it’s about creating real, tangible benefits for Namibians. Every mine developed, every oil well explored, and every renewable energy project launched must contribute to our country’s progress. Namibia is known for its world-class diamond, uranium, and lithium reserves, but what truly matters is how these resources translate into economic empowerment. International mining companies working in Namibia don’t just extract minerals—they partner with local suppliers, create jobs, fund technical training programs, and invest in communities.

The same applies to our rapidly growing oil and gas sector, which has already attracted global energy giants eager to develop Namibia’s offshore potential. These investments bring expertise and financial resources that help expand our industrial base and create more opportunities for Namibian businesses and workers. Investment means jobs—and not just any jobs, but skilled, high-paying, and future-proof careers. With increasing investment in green hydrogen and renewable energy, entirely new career paths are opening up for Namibians.

At the Ministry of Mines and Energy, we are actively investing in technical and vocational training programs to equip our workforce with the right skills in engineering, renewable energy, and resource management. Our goal is simple: to empower Namibians to take leadership roles in these industries, rather than just being employees. The numbers speak for themselves. In the mining sector alone, over 18,000 Namibians are employed directly, while thousands more benefit through local procurement, logistics, and service contracts. As we expand into oil, gas, and hydrogen, we must ensure that Namibians have the skills and expertise to lead these sectors into the future.

While attracting investment is crucial, we are not just handing over our resources without ensuring that Namibians benefit. This is why local participation policies play a key role in our approach. Our Local Content Policy ensures that Namibians don’t just work in the resource sector, but also own, supply, and innovate within it. We want to see Namibian entrepreneurs thriving, Namibian businesses supplying the industry, and Namibian workers leading operations on the ground. Investment should not be a one-way street—it must benefit both investors and the people of Namibia.

At the Ministry of Mines and Energy, we are committed to ensuring that every investment in our resource sector builds a stronger, more inclusive economy. By striking a balance between foreign investment and local empowerment, we are making sure that Namibia’s resource wealth translates into real economic growth, job creation, and a better future for every citizen. Our resources belong to the people, and we are here to ensure that they work for the benefit of all.
