Ensuring a Safe and Healthy Mining Environment
Primary Functions
- Inspections and Recommendations: Conducting regular inspections of mining operations to identify safety hazards, recommend remedial actions, and provide advice to mine managers.
- Accident Investigations: Investigating mine accidents and submitting reports to the Office of the Prosecutor General for decision-making.
- Blasting Certificates: Issuing blasting certificates for both open-cast and underground mines. Mine Survey Maps: Maintaining and managing mine survey maps.
- Accessory Work Permits: Assessing and approving applications for accessory work permits.
- Pressure Vessels: Testing and certifying pressure vessels on mine sites.
- Mine Plans: Assessing and approving mine plans.
- Inter-ministerial Collaboration: Liaising with the Ministry of Labour and Ministry of Health on health and safety matters.
- Industry Engagement: Serving on the Safety Committee of the Chamber of Mines of Namibia. Through dedicated efforts, strive to create a safe and healthy working environment for all mining personnel in Namibia.
- Advise the Minister of Industries, Mines and Energy on matters related to Safe Working Conditions in the Mining Industry in Namibia.
