Supporting Namibia’s Small-Scale Miners

The Small Scale Mining (SSM) Division within the Ministry of Industries, Mines and Energy is dedicated to supporting the growth and development of small-scale mining in Namibia. Our division comprises two subdivisions: Mineral Resources/Information and Analytical & Environmental Services.

Through these services, the Small Scale Mining Division aims to empower small-scale miners, promote sustainable mining practices, and contribute to the economic development of Namibia.

Our Services

  • Technical Support: Providing free laboratory sample analysis to small-scale miners with valid mineral rights.
  • Training and Capacity Building: Providing training to small-scale miners on mining legal requirements, mineral rights acquisition, and industry best practices.
  • Industry Promotion: Promoting the potential of small-scale mining through exhibitions and conferences.
  • Dispute Resolution: Settling land access disputes related to small-scale mining activities.
  • Legal Entity Formation: Facilitating the formation of legal groups or bodies (associations or cooperatives) to channel support from government, NGOs, and development partners.
  • International Trade: Encouraging small-scale miners to participate in international trade fairs to market their products.
  • Claim Pegging : Assisting small-scale miners with the pegging of mining claims.
