Our primary responsibility is to create and maintain an environment that allows businesses to thrive while also safeguarding the interests of consumers.

This is achieved through the formulation and administration of key laws and policies that govern business operations, protect intellectual property, and ensure fair market practices across the country.

Business Regulation and Support

  • Formulating and administering laws and policies to create an environment that encourages business and commercial activities.
  • Promoting efficient business and intellectual property registration through the Business and Intellectual Property Authority Act, 2016.
  • Making provisions for merchandise marking and the use of certain words and emblems in business, as per the Merchandise Act, 1941.

Market and Consumer Protection

  • Promoting and protecting consumer rights through regular inspections, enforcement of product standards, and consumer awareness campaigns.
  • Promoting fair competition in the domestic market under the Competition Act, 2003.
  • Promoting internationally competitive product quality and standards at the factory level, as outlined in the Standards Act, 2005.

Intellectual Property and Innovation

  • Promoting and registering innovations, inventions, and technology transfers, including copyrights, patents, trademarks, and designs, to boost industrial capacity and productivity.
