Directorate of Geology: Exploring Namibia’s Geological Riches

The Geological Survey of Namibia (GSN) is a key component of the Ministry of Industries, Mines and Energy, dedicated to advancing our understanding of Namibia’s geological resources and promoting their sustainable development.

Their Mission

  • Knowledge Enhancement: Conduct scientific investigations to increase knowledge and awareness of Namibia’s geological resources.
  • Data Dissemination: Share high-quality research data to support decision-making and resource management.
  • Resource Exploration and Assessment: Facilitate the search for and evaluation of mineral resources, geological engineering, and land use planning.
  • Sustainable Development: Promote sustainable development practices that consider environmental impacts.

Objectives

As the custodian of Namibia’s geological heritage, the GSN aims to:

  • Responsible Development: Encourage responsible and sustainable development of mineral resources.
  • Benefit for All: Ensure that the benefits of geological resources are shared equitably among Namibians.

Structure

  • The GSN comprises of two directorates and six divisions, each specialising in a specific area of geological research and services.
