At the Ministry of Mines and Energy, we are committed to expanding green energy access across Namibia, particularly through our Solar Revolving Fund (SRF) initiative. The SRF, managed by the Energy Funds Directorate, is part of the Off-Grid Energisation Master Plan for Namibia (OGEMP). This program aims to bring sustainable energy solutions to rural areas and urban communities that lack reliable access to the national grid.
What is the Solar Revolving Fund?
The SRF is a credit facility designed to encourage the use of renewable energy technologies in off-grid areas. Affordable loans enable individuals and communities to install solar energy systems, supporting Namibia’s push toward clean, renewable energy. These loans are available with interest rates of 5%, repayable over 60 months. The loan amount thresholds are categorised per system type. The Solar Home System (SHS) and Photovoltaic Pumping System (PVP) are up to N$60 000, while the Solar Water Heater (SWH) is capped at N$35 0000, with a required deposit ranging from 5% to 30% of the total quotation amount.
Trusted Energy Service Providers
To ensure quality and reliability, we work with pre-qualified Energy Service Providers who are approved by the National Technical Committee on Renewable Energy at the Namibia Energy Institute. These service providers offer installation services to SRF clients, from providing detailed quotations to installing solar systems at client’s chosen locations. Importantly, these providers also offer warranties on the equipment, adding assurance and value for clients acquiring solar systems through the SRF.
