Energy Directorate: Powering Namibia’s Future

The Energy Funds Directorate within the Ministry of Industries, Mines and Energy plays a crucial role in ensuring a secure, affordable, and sustainable energy supply for Namibia. Our mandate is to support the nation’s socioeconomic development by leveraging our natural resources and promoting responsible energy practices.

What We Do

  • Policy Implementation: We are responsible for implementing energy policies and regulations, including the Electricity Act, 2007.
  • Regulatory Oversight: We enforce compliance with energy legislation and regulations to ensure a fair and competitive market.
  • Research and Development: We invest in research and development of new and renewable energy sources to diversify Namibia’s energy mix.

Divisions

  • Electricity Division: Oversees the generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity.
  • Renewable Energy Division: Promotes the development and utilisation of renewable energy sources.
  • Energy Planning and Research Division: Conducts energy planning and research to inform policy decisions.
